This funding round focused on advancing health equity and community: expanding access to health and mental health services, promoting food sovereignty through pantries and community gardens, fostering safer environments, arts and culture, and increasing community nutrition and wellness education —
(The Bronx, N.Y.) — The Bronx Community Foundation (BxCF), the first and only community foundation dedicated solely to serving the entire Bronx, today announced the recipients of its latest participatory grantmaking round for 2024 — a $150,000 investment in 15 innovative organizations leading efforts to tackle systemic challenges in the borough. This round focused on advancing health equity and community: expanding access to health and mental health services, promoting food sovereignty through pantries and community gardens, fostering safer environments, arts and culture, and increasing community nutrition and wellness education.
With the conclusion of this funding round, The Bronx Community Foundation continues its mission of grant making and supporting non-profits across the borough. Since its founding, the foundation has garnered more than $10 million in resources, directly supporting grassroots organizations, nonprofits, small businesses, and individuals across The Bronx. This latest round leveraged the Foundation’s inclusive community engagement process, bringing together stakeholders from affected areas to ensure equitable and impactful funding decisions.
A participatory grants committee of Bronx-based leaders, from Bronx-serving nonprofits, reviewed applications and selected 15 organizations from a highly competitive pool of applicants. Each recipient will receive a $10,000 grant to advance their mission. The funds can be used for program development, workshops, staff expenses, overhead costs, or any resources deemed essential for the success of their projects or services.

About the Selection Process
The Foundation’s participatory grantmaking model is rooted in equity and inclusion. The participatory grants committee shares equal power in reviewing applications and making funding decisions, ensuring the process reflects the priorities and needs of the community. Committee members are invited to participate based on their expertise in the identified funding areas, disclosure of any conflicts of interest and availability to review applications within the specified timeframe.
Focus Areas
The grants will support work in the following sectors:
- Community: Services in arts and culture, intergenerational and social services, community cohesion, and civic engagement to strengthen The Bronx’s vibrant neighborhoods.
- Health: Initiatives that enhance health equity, increase access to health and mental health services, promote food sovereignty, create safer environments, and expand nutrition and wellness education. These efforts aim to address systemic injustices and improve quality of life in The Bronx, which lags behind the city in several health metrics.
