Nonprofit Capacity

Nonprofit organizations in The Bronx have been critical in providing neighborhood stability, responding to trauma, and providing pathways to prosperity and mechanisms for undoing generational race-based inequality.

During economic downturns, Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) are typically the first to experience deep funding cuts—to the immediate detriment of the community. The Bronx Community Foundation believes that every Bronxite deserves social and cultural support throughout their lifetime; we are committed to providing nonprofits in The Bronx with resources to help them and the communities they serve thrive. Our nonprofit partners promote the arts, athletic programs, and religious diversity throughout our vibrant communities.

Housing Stability

The Bronx is a place of great diversity and ingenuity. However, wealth generation has been stifled by the limited resources available to put Bronxites on the ladder to home ownership. A majority of Bronxites spend more than 50% of their income on rent and The Bronx has one of the lowest home ownership percentages in the country at 18%.

The combination of severe rent burden, lost income, and very little to no savings for emergencies results in significant housing instability. The Bronx Community Foundation believes that every Bronxite deserves a safe, warm, and stable home.
